剧情简介：
在波斯湾战争的夜袭行动中误击已方坦克的装甲部队指挥官纳森尼尔．沙林上校，在美国军方刻意掩盖丑闻的情况下调回华盛顿，担任授动部门的闲职。他奉命审核女上尉凯伦．华登的授动案，不料在调查过程中却发现几名不同身份的军人对华登因公殉职的真相人言人殊。
到底她是具有无畏勇气的英雄还是懦夫呢？沙林本人对同僚之死的内咎心理仍未稍减，却又受到新闻记者对误击真相穷追不舍，在心力交瘁之下，他决定不顾一切追寻军人的荣誉。
编剧采取罗生门的模式来探讨何谓“勇气”，剧情具一波三折的戏剧性，导演爱德华．兹维克也拍得流畅。梅格．瑞安与丹泽尔．华盛顿演出称职，以《心灵捕手》崛起的马特．戴蒙演出华登的部下伊阿里欧。
