本片根据恐怖小说之王史蒂芬·金的同名小说改编。在经常发现UFO的神秘51号地区，出现了无数辆无人驾驶的恐怖卡车，小镇很快就被这些卡车占领了，而小镇的居民也被迫与文明世界隔离，并成为了它们的人质。这时小镇里的有毒物质开始泄漏。在卡车造成了无数的人员死亡后，剩下的幸存者——两个十几岁的孩子，他们的父亲，以及一个女人，他们不得不全力以赴逃离此外。但是他们发现很难从这些恐怖的卡车手中逃脱……
