幕后花絮：
本片是2003年票房大热的小成本动作片《黑夜传说》的续集，当时的投资仅为2300万美元，但却创下了周末三天2200万、全球票房过亿的好成绩，片商自然要大力催谷，立刻开拍续集。而且，第三部《黑夜传说前传》也在筹备过程中，并马上投入拍摄，剧本仍由伦·维斯曼(Len Wiseman)和丹尼·麦克布莱德(Danny McBride)编写。《黑夜传说》是伦·维斯曼在好莱坞第一次执导的大成本影片。出身于幕后工作人员的他不但会写剧本，也曾在1994年《星际奇兵》、1996年《独立*》等片担任道具助理。
影片故事脱胎于莎翁经典悲剧爱情《罗密欧与朱丽叶》，特技效果则能明显看出《骇客帝国》的影子，尽管评论界对该片评价不高，却受到观众的热烈欢迎。在本片中，家族恩怨演化为部族仇杀、人类世界中的罗密欧与朱丽叶化身为地下世界的迈克尔和赛琳娜，作为莎翁名着《罗密欧与朱丽叶》的最新诠释版，《黑夜传说》融入了厚重的奇幻色彩和大量的现代元素，但古老的爱情主题依旧惨烈凄美。
此外，本片还撮合了导演伦·维斯曼和女主角凯特·贝金塞尔美好姻缘，见证了二人由相识、相恋到迈入结婚殿堂的过程。两人于2003年6月订婚，并在2004年5月9*在洛杉矶完婚。据凯特·贝金塞尔的发言人说，婚礼规模并不大，邀请的宾客人数也不多，但气氛相当亲切、温馨。而这位女星与前任男友迈克·辛所生的五岁女儿莉莉，在婚礼上担任小花僮。
