1997年拍摄第一部《狂蟒之灾》时，电子动画学仍是电影业中占主要地位的特技制作手段，《狂蟒之灾2》顺应潮流以CG作为特技主打，赋予这些巨大的爬行动物真实的生命。作为第一部《狂蟒之灾》的制片人，弗娜·哈拉最初的想法是让水蟒通过一条驶离亚马逊的小船进入新奥尔良的排水沟……但是这个想法对于一部惊悚片">惊悚片来说似乎过于复杂了，所以最后还是将故事背景选在拥有无法预知危险的荒蛮丛林中，情节也被简化成科学家在婆罗洲发现一种可以延长寿命的兰花。弗娜·哈拉还是非常能够领悟恐怖影片的精髓的，她让剧情尽量简化，然后把重注都压在那条CG蛇上，她将恐怖片的框架搭得非常高明，导演德怀特·H·利特尔很懂得抓住恐怖影迷的胃口，对于这样一部主流商业片来说，能稳住票房，也就不算失败了。
