新銳導演約翰傑夫考特(John Jeffcoat)執導，並與喬治溫(George Wing)一同編寫劇本，以導演在尼泊爾和印度的旅行經驗為靈感，將全球最火熱的話題「外包」與愛情、文化等主題結合，發展出一場幽默滿點的跨文化愛情。導演表示：「所有人都會得到共鳴！文化撞擊時總會產生許多有趣好玩、啼笑皆非的事。我總是相信，彼此接納絕對比互相抗拒來得好。」
故事講述在降低經營成本的考量下，工資低廉又會說英語的印度大學生成為美國電話網路銷售公司的最愛，於是紛紛將call center遷往印度，但是文化差異鬧出的災難和因廉價而獲得的利益可能不相上下。
陶德在整個部門被外包到印度後，心不甘情不願前往當地，訓練承包的銷售公司員工如何以美國方式工作、說話。看似跳升為高幹的派駐，卻踫上陶德想都想不到的大災難，孟買的混亂、街童的乞討、名字被唸成「蟾蜍」、旅館牆壁畫滿印度「愛經」、遇到荷麗節時全身被丟滿彩粉、上廁所得用「左手」清理、麥當勞變成「麥當佬」，而且還沒賣吉士堡！
種種不適應都讓陶德抓狂。原來從走出航站的第一刻起，陶德的世界已開始改變...這時高升變地獄的職場菜鳥碰上了可人的商學院新鮮人，兩人又將發展出什麼烏龍的事情？愛情＆職場的必修課程，讓人哭笑不得，看他們如何打破距離，把世界變成平的？！
本片改編自同名暢銷書，在這本趨勢書中提出了「世界是平的」概念的佛里曼認為，身在遙遠國度的人將會成為未來市場上的重要關鍵。在費用與資本主義的經濟考量下，「外包」已經成為常態，許多企業紛紛訓練他國人才之後，將客服與公司移到其他國家，以節省費用與成本，也讓原本地球是圓的及國與國間遙遠的觀念都打破，而有「世界是平的」與市場關鍵外移的概念。
約翰傑夫考特就表示，「外包」現象已經成為常態，印度逐漸成為美國許多電話網路銷售公司的客服中心，很多印度人飛往美國接受專業訓練，之後再飛回印度，以比美國人還要少超過一半的薪水，取代美國人做同樣工作內容。這些實例激起他創作本片的靈感：「為什麼我們不送一個美國人到印度，去訓練他自己的接班人呢？這會是一個非常有話題的電影，所有人都會得到共鳴！因為文化撞擊時總會產生許多有趣好玩、啼笑皆非的事。」
